Botox is a pharmacological presentation of botulinum toxin and consists of a purified substance, derived from the bacterium clostridium botulinum, which blocks muscle nerve signals. By placing small amounts in certain areas in the specific facial muscles, the impulse is blocked and the muscle relaxes temporarily, decreasing wrinkling of the skin.
Its application is relatively simple, a very fine needle is used, it is well tolerated and its application only lasts a few minutes. The effect is observed after 3 to 7 days of treatment. Its use against wrinkles is the most popular but the botulinum toxin has several medical applications, for example in the treatment of chronic migraines or people with hyperhidrosis.
